MEDIA COVERAGE

Aug 30, 2012 - By Lauren LaRocca Frederick News-Post August 30, 2012

And from collage, I’m reminded that Julie Maynard, probably my favorite collage artist in the area, is showing work at The Artists’ Gallery in September. Whimsical, historical, wild, tribal, unconventional, beautiful — these are words that come to mind when thinking about her work, which usually incorporates a natural element (literally or figuratively), even when doing a piece on a train wreck. (Her exhibit is titled “Train Wrecks.”) I first met the Burkittsville-based artist in 2009, when she had work at a small framing shop in Brunswick, Sundance Art & Frame. I have since seen her art burst onto the Frederick scene. And on that note, I’m happy she’s become part of TAG; she helps continue the balance of diversity of work at the art co-op. To see how her work has evolved, go to www.juliemaynard. com.
